It's been a while

We are still alive! I realized I haven't blogged in months and i figured I would let you know I am alive and well.

Dade has started kindergarten and is excelling, as we knew he would. Emmett just turned 3 and started preschool this week. He has a hard time when we leave, but he loves his teachers and his friends.

My little sister is getting married in a week. I cant believe it! We leave for Kentucky on Thursday the 1st and return home on the 5th. We are driving and are dreading 26 straight hours in the car, but it will be so good to be a part if her wedding. Im her matron of honor so I have my work cut out for me when I get there :)

Emmett saw dr. G a few weeks ago, and can you believe it? His ASD closed on it's own!! Seriously stoked that we saved like 20 g's and a hospital stay! We don't have to go back to cardiology for...are you ready for this? TWO YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are still saving for a new home and living in... This place. Hopefully in 18 months ill be in a bigger place that isnt so drafty :)

Cakes, cakes, and more cakes

I'm all caked out. After completing the most elaborate cake to date (even more time consuming than the Alice in wonderland cake for my sisters' birthday last year) I got to bask in my 15 minutes of fame while everyone showered me with yummy noises and compliments. It was great for about 2 minutes then I wanted to be invisible for the rest of the night. The joys of social anxiety! I'm posting from my iPad so I can't upload pictures but I will update the post with the finished product. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

With just a few days rest I started on the "belly and boobs" cake for my super cute friend, and fellow "heart mom", who is expecting twin girls. The cake was cute, although my poor planning led to a very plainly decorated belly. That bummed me out, but it was still cute and so fun to make.

Justin and I met 12 years ago today. He was serving an LDS mission and came with his companion to visit the coolest family in the ward. I opened the door, looked up, and the earth stopped turning. I knew. There is no other way to describe it other than I. Just. Knew.

We began dating August 28th, 2000 about a month after he returned home from his (honorable!!) mission. On May 9th, 2003 we married. Exactly 3 years (almost to the minute) after we met.

It's been a rough 9 years. A lot of bumps and curves along the way. Days when we knew this was forever, and days when we didn't think we'd last. We aren't perfect and certainly don't claim to be. We've both made mistakes that we regret. We've both hurt each other. The difference is that we CHOOSE to fight. We choose to make it work.

We choose US.

Funny things kids say

Dade has such a funny sense of humor. He obviously gets this from me. Amirite?! haha

Last night Dade and I were sitting on his bed reading his scriptures, like we do every night, just him and I.

Once we were finished reading we (By "we" I mean ME!) said a prayer and I gave him his vitamin and got up to go turn on his creepy rainforest bird sound machine on. He turned to me and said

"Yeah buddy?"
"Where is Heavenly Father?"
"He's in Heaven, Dade"
"When I get big I'm going to see him"
"Well yes, Dade. One day when we die, we will get to see him again" (I'd like to mention here that we don't sugarcoat things. We are honest in an age appropriate way. I see no value in telling my impressionable 4 year old that he's never going to die, or that I'm never going to die.)
"Yes, Dade?"
"When I get big I'm going to turn into a spaceship and go see Heavenly Father..."

"And we'll have a quesadilla."

That, my friends, is what happens when a 4 1/2 year old is up at 6am, doesn't nap, and has a melatonin with dinner.

True Story.
